Dean Johnson, enjoys designing homes.
Dean's architectural training began in drafting class his senior year at Stillwater High School in Minnesota. An art scholarship allowed him to attend the University of MN, Twin Cities, where he completed his Bachelors in Environmental design and a Masters in Architecture.
Dean's first piano teacher was married to Ron Ankeny, whose first architectural job out of college was in the French office of the premier architect of the day, Marcel Breuer.
Dean now enjoys working directly on select projects with clients, and contractors, in a cooperative approach that attempts to be kind to people and the environment, through innovative visual thinking.
The City of St. Paul awarded his company an award for his part in designing the exterior restoration of a Queen Anne house on Summit Avenue.

AS MUSICAL ENTERTAINER
Dean Johnson, enjoys designing, entertaining with music, and gathering the fascinating stories of the seniors he meets.
Dean's classical piano training began in his home town of St. Paul at the age of six with Nancy Ankeny, continued with Gwen Perun and Gary Sipes at MacPhail Center, then with prof. emeritus Bernhard Weiser of the U of MN. A repetitive stress injury led to Dean commuting to NYC for several years to study with Eleanor Hancock, protégé of Dorothy Taubman, and specialist in retraining injured pianists.
He attended the high school pianists section of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute in 1987 on a scholarship, and received a Minor in Music in Society from the University of MN. He has participated in master classes with pianists Leon Fleischer and James Tocco.
Dean is a past winner of the Minnesota State Fair Amateur Talent Contest, Schubert Club and Thursday Musical competitions, and the Young Keyboard Artist's Association International Competition in Ann Arbor Michigan.
Broadcast performances include KSJN-fm's 'Live from Landmark" series, KSTP Television with Steve and Sharon, and an appearance as a competitor on 1980's TV Talent Show, Discoverama.
Currently Dean is the music director and accompanist of the PYPS (Pursuing Your Passion!) an amateur vocal group based in Stillwater, MN. Having completed his Architectural Design studies at the U of MN, Dean is sole propretor of Dean Johnson Design Service, also called Crooner Dean Design. He is proud to help in his Dad's business, Burton's Rain Gutter Service.
Dean lives in Saint Paul with his wife, Patty, and their two children Royce and Mandoline.
